  Simple Telly Review Summary

Simple Telly is an absolutely fantastic and dynamic provider. While some areas could do with a bit of redefining and updating, the overall service provided is superb and they are the only ones who provide a fully rounded application for both iOS and Android!

Pricing & Plans

The pricing for Simple Telly is a very reasonable and below average $4.00/month. As with many other SmartDNS providers, Simple Telly offers increasing discounts the longer you sign up for, with prices going as low as as $2.50/month for their yearly plan. Slightly annoyingly you aren’t able to select or view the pricing options before signing up for a free trial.

With regards to payment they primarily accept PayPal and Visa/Mastercard. It is also possible to pay with Bitcoin and Payment Wall but the methods for this is very convoluted and if this is something you’d like to do we recommend asking their great support team to walk you through this.

They do not provide a money back guarantee for any reason so make sure that you fully utilise their 14 day free trial – which is very easy to obtain. On this topic they had the following to say, so if you’re having big problems you might be able to get your money back:
“We do not have this [money back] program per-se, you are correct. However, we treat customers with understanding and respect and in the very very rare cases where customers complain with a clear reasoning, we are happy to reimburse them.”

Features

Global Network Services LTD whom also run My Private Network VPN have been in the business of providing geo-restriction overcoming tools for a number of years now. Therefore it comes as no surprise that their SmartDNS service a.k.a Simple Telly is well designed and thoughtfully implemented.

As we show in the next section they have support for a good number of devices but their channels list isn’t the highest we’ve seen – but this shouldn’t be an issue for most people. They allow you to access their services on as many devices as you wish as long as they all use the same IP address. While some allow more, this is also a reasonable amount for most people.

With a SmartDNS there is no security aspect and the provider can see all of the DNS requests you make which makes it very important to read the Terms and Conditions and the Privacy Policy. In this area Simple Telly excels very well for the following reasons:
– They only intercept the traffic that needs your geo-region to be changed in order to access
– They only log the information required for their service to work and they delete these after a week
– They are based in Hong Kong so they have very little requirements with regards to collecting your information transmitted through their network

Channels & Devices

At the moment Simple Telly provides access to 83 different channels in 4 main countries (USA, UK, Australia and France) as well as a few channels in other countries such as Italy, Sweden and Canada. While this is a relatively small number compared to other providers it contains all the important areas such as Netflix, Hulu, iPlayer and many other primary networks. Also their list is where dynamic and they are constantly updating and adding services to this list.

Unlike a lot of providers you are also able to select from all of the Netflix regions meaning you aren’t limited to using just the US or UK regions. It’s great to see that they have already implemented access for the New Zealand and Australian regions already!

As with the channels the number of device set up guides they provide – 24 – isn’t the most excessive. But again they provide help for all the key platforms such as Microsoft, Smart TVs and Gaming Devices. Like many providers they do not provide software for the desktop devices but it was a very pleasant surprise to see that they have excellent software for both Android and iOS – more on this later.

The biggest unique selling point of Simple Telly is the fact that all of there setup guides are done as both video and text making it extremely easy to follow!

The Simple Telly Website

Most of the Simple Telly website is well designed and implemented. Navigation is easy and all the important information is a click away. The downside is that they have a number of areas and links related to their old service (SimpleVPN) which make either no sense or confusingly redirect you to their homepage. There is also some branding left over from this.

Simple Telly Review Homepage
On the upside their homepage provides some great information on the latest and best shows to watch on Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Instant Video and BBC iPlayer. While they do not have their own blog page their social networks are kept up to date with helpful tips and hints from the streaming world.

Support

Simple Telly is limited to three types of support options – a knowledgebase/FAQ, ticket support and support through social networks (Facebook and Twitter). The Knowledgebase is well populated and offers help with a lot of different issues related to their SmartDNS service. The only issue with it is that some of the articles are slightly out dated meaning you might not find exactly what you wish or the information won’t be 100% correct. However, their ticket and social networks support is very polite and effective at responding so should you have any major problems they will be able to rapidly resolve this.

Their customer service hours are normally from GMT 0100-1100 and 1400-1800 during weekdays and 0200-0600 and 1400-1800 on weekends.

The Process

Signing Up

Registering with Simple Telly is very easy and all they require for a free trial is your email address. In order to get a paid account you will need to provide some more information depending on what you wish to use for payment. Therefore if you pay using PayPal or Bitoin you won’t need to provide any private information.

Simple Telly Smart DNS Setup

Like many other providers in the business, Simple Telly does not provide you with a client for any desktop device. We found their set up guides easy to follow and we had our Windows computer up and running and connected in minutes.

Updating your IP is easily done through your client area. While they do not support DDNS they do have a HTML link you can bookmark in order to update your IP. Changing the region of your Netflix service is also very easy. While there is region switching for some other services this isn’t as excessive as we’ve seen with some but still a lot more than available elsewhere.

Performance (Speed and DNS)

We carried out the normal performance test with Simple Telly. As expected there was no speed loss. When we checked the DNS leaks we were also very pleased to see that they do all of the DNS processing themselves and do not piggy back off Google DNS or any other similar service. This does have it’s ups and downs but we generally view its as a positive!

Other Platforms

A very pleasant surprise by Simple Telly was the fact that they have fully developed and functioning applications for both iOS and Android. We gave the Android app a test. It was superbly easy to use and it handle both setting up your DNS and updating your IP flawlessly – this is definitely a huge plus for this provider!

The only place where their apps are let down is that they do not mention them anywhere in their set-up guides, so if you don’t pay attention you will miss the fact that it exists. Of course if you miss this, their visual guide will be able to help you to do it manually.

Simple Telly Review Conclusion

We liked

  • Fantastic iOS and Android apps
  • Low price
  • 14 day free trial
  • Good customer centric security
  • Great region switching
  • Superb video tutorials

We weren’t so sure about

  • No official money-back guarantee (reasonable claims are refunded though!)
  • Limited channels and setup guides (but more than adequate for most)
  • Some of the knowledge base is outdated
  • Some branding left over from their previous service

We hated

  • Paying with Bitcoin is very complicated to do

While some areas could do with a bit of tweaking the service provided by Simple Telly is absolutely superb. With prices below average and a 14 day money back guarantee there is no reason you shouldn’t give this provider a try today.
